Vertically Aligned Twisted Nematic is only available in negative mode (light colored letters on a dark/black background). VATN displays produce very bright segments and can be easily read.

Twisted Nematic fluid is the most inexpensive and has the narrowest viewing angle. It does have a faster response time in colder weather than STN and FSTN

Super Twisted Nematic fluid is more expensive than TN and offers a wider viewing angle than TN.

Film Super Twisted Nematic fluid is more expensive than STN and offers a sharper contrast than TN and STN.

When operating under low -light or light -free environment, LED backlight is required to read LCD characters. Backlight can "open" or "close" independently to LCD to reduce power consumption.
LED (light -emitting diode) backlight is the first choice for segmented LCD, because they are driven by DC (DC), and EM interference will not produce and provide a longer half -life.
Most designs connect backlight as a unit or module to LCD, but they can be manufactured and transported separately.

HTN panels (high distorted columns) are sandwiched between two transparent glass towards column LCD molecules. Between the two layers of glass, the orientation of the liquid crystal molecule is 110 to 130 degrees. So the perspective is wider than TN.
